Legality Level of Cannabis:
Let me guess, you are traveling through Europe and now you just visited Denmark and you wonder where you can get some weed in Copenhagen?
Don’t worry, just keep scrolling down and you will find what you are looking for.
The Danish capital is known for being clean, green, and repeatedly ranked as the ‘world’s most liveable city’. This is no surprise, as Danes have worked hard to achieve this.
Most remarkable sites in the city are the statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid at Langelinie and Tivoli Gardens, the oldest running amusement park in the world.
Keep reading this guide to find out how you can get weed in Copenhagen and make your staying here a bit more exciting.
Cannabis Law in Copenhagen
Cannabis possession, selling, transportation and cultivation are all illegal in Denmark.
So, while you may not use cannabis for recreational purposes, certain cannabis derivatives are allowed for medical use by subscription. Most of the Danes are (like most Scandinavians) very disciplined and conservative, so they strongly condemn and look down on drug use.
However, there is one neighborhood in Copenhagen where the use of marijuana is unofficially legal and tolerated. It is called Christiania and it is like a heaven for hippies and pot lovers, but more on that later in this text.
If you get caught with small amount (under 10 g), you will likely be fine, especially if you are a tourist. This is not certain, however. There have been cases where people were getting fines while others were going off with just a warning. If you are carrying a little something to smoke in Denmark, your best bet would be not to get caught. 😉
Possessions over 10 grams will land you in prison.
Despite cannabis being illegal in Denmark, more than one third of country’s population has tried it in some point in their lives, which makes them well over European average.
Where to get weed in Copenhagen
This is basically a no-brainer. If you ask anyone, where you can get some weed in Copenhagen, they will tell you the same answer: Freetown of Christiania.
Freetown Christiania is a semi-autonomous anarchist district in Copenhagen and it is known for being a very hippy place with an open cannabis trade route for almost half a century.
You can easily get there by foot, bike or a metro – but not by a car. This is becoming a standard throughout Denmark as they are working on complete ban of all cars – even the prime minister goes to work on a bike.
Christiania used to be a military base which sat unused for years before being occupied by some hippies in 1970’s. Today, almost 1000 people live in that area and it is considered completely independent of Danish laws and government.
There is a famous green lights district in Christiania where there are literally sold in public booths as it was fruit on a market. Unfortunately, because of the recent drug-related shooting in the green light district, police is harsher towards those who sell weed and tends to oppress them.
But, Christiania is not just a place for weed, you will surely enjoy here with many other attractions this place has to offer.
Alternatively, you can try some other places, like pubs, or ask around students and suspicious guys around the city parks, but… if you are new around here, the smartest thing would be to visit Christiania and have at it there.
Cannabis prices in Copenhagen
It depends where you buy it. It will cost you about 20$ for a gram of top quality buds. Of course, you will surely be able to negotiate better price if you buy in bulk. Hash is a lot cheaper, you can get it for around 10$ a gram.
Lower quality marijuana can be purchased for 7-15$ for a gram, and cheaper, if you buy more.
In Christiania, weed is sold bags of 2.8 grams. You will typically pay about 200 danish kroner (about 30$) for a bag of skunk, and if you buy 3 bags, you can get it for about 500 dkk (about 80$).
Enjoy your trip in this amazing Viking Scandinavian country, and smoke some pot in Christiania – the pot lovers paradise.
Bonus fact: Danes are IN LOVE with bikes and eco-friendly way of life in general. Did you know there are twice as many bikes as there are people, and half as many cars as there is people? Amazing, right?
